Executive Director and Co-Founder

Over her eleven years as an attorney with the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (NYCDoH), Marti became deeply involved in several public health issues. Along with Dr. Luisi and others, she was instrumental in setting up the lactation program for NYCDoH's own employees, consisting of a large lactation room in the agency's headquarters and a pump-loaning program to support employees scattered throughout New York's five boroughs. Marti received a master’s in public health in May 2008. Her MPH honors paper was on Breastfeeding and Working Women. Marti is a certified lactation consultant (CLC). She is also a member of BABE (Brooklyn Association for Breastfeeding Empowerment).

Daria Luisi, PhD, MPH : President and Co-Founder

Dr. Luisi is manager of Consolidated Edison of NY’s Employee Wellness Program. She was formerly director of employee wellness programs at the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene.

Betty Wolder Levin, PhD : Vice-President

Dr. Levin is a professor in the Department of Health and Nutrition Services at Brooklyn College and at the Public Health Program at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).

Evelyn Abreu-Nieves, MPH : Secretary

Evelyn is a case manager, health educator, and treatment adherence specialist in the Department of Pediatrics at Metropolitan Hospital, a part of New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation. She is a working mother who loves finding ways to improve family health.

Jay L.A. is a photographer and graphic designer based in New York City with fifteen years of experience in web design. In 2010 she founded Jay L.A Bastien | Photography & Design, a business that provides photography & design services. She currently specializes in Visual Brand Identity Design for individuals, non-profit organizations and small businesses.

Jessica Friedland, MPH, CHES :

Jessica Friedland, MPH, CHES

Jessica is a Senior Specialist in the occupational Health Department of Consolidated Edison Company of New York. Her work focuses on integrating employee wellness programs into Occupational health and health benefits, policy development and communications and continuous improvement of technological infrastructure. She is currently completing an MBA with a dual specialization in Strategy and Leadership & Change Management at the New York University Stern School of Business. Jessica has formerly worked in the Worksite Wellness Program at the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene.

Norma Garcia, BS, IBCLC :

Norma Garcia, BS, IBCLC - Norma Garcia currently works as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BPC) for Maimonides Medical Center’s WIC Program, and as a part-time Breastfeeding Coordinator for WfW. As a BPC, Norma conducts breastfeeding education classes for pregnant women and families. She has also been contracted by NYC DoHMH Newborn Home Visiting Program as an IBCLC. Norma is an active member of many breastfeeding and public health organizations, including Public Health Association of NYC (PHANYC), Brooklyn Association for Breastfeeding EMPOWERMENT (BABE) and La Leche League (LLL).

Oyenike Kilanko, MD, FACOG :

Oyenike Kilanko, MD, FACOG

Dr. Kilanko is a board certified  Ob/Gyn practicing in Brooklyn since 2001. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She is currently the Lead Physician of the Ob/Gyn division of the Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center in Brooklyn.

Roberta Nusim :

Roberta is the founder and for twenty-five years was the CEO of Young Minds Inspired, which supplies professionally prepared, corporate-sponsored teaching materials to American classrooms. She is an educator and marketing specialist experienced in reaching educators, parents, students and corporate sponsors of multimedia school-based curricula and programs in a variety of settings and program areas.

A volunteer with WFW is  breastfeeding mother and educator who's passion and devotion for supporting breastfeeding mothers was sparked by the struggles and frustrations she experienced upon her return to the workforce. All mothers face unique challenges that are dependent on their careers and jobs. Erin's challenges centered around the fact that her job requires her to travel across boroughs, doing visits at various sites in addition to attending conferences and professional development trainings. Through her breastfeeding and parenting journey, she came to the conclusion that she wanted to find a way to support and empower women. She wants to have role in making this experience less stressful for women, so work doesn't have to be a barrier between maintaining the most amazing connection possible with their baby and providing the most perfect and nutritious food available.

Carolyn M. Springer, Ph.D. :

Carolyn M. Springer, Ph.D.

Dr. Springer graduated from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Columbia University with a doctorate in Social Psychology in 1992 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 1998-2001.  She has over twenty-five years of experience evaluating educational and health programs for several organizations including several community based organizations in the maternal and child health field.  She is currently an Associate Professor at the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University.

Lynette Thompson, CLC :

Lynette Thompson, CLC

Lynette is a historian with a focus on the African American experience. Her foray into parenthood sparked her current mission to normalize breastfeeding by any means necessary. Receiving her B.A. in History in 2010 and her CLC in 2014, she uses the two cooperatively to provide targeted lactation assistance in her community.

Jim Reiser, M.B.A, M.A. :

Jim Reiser, M.B.A, M.A.

Jim Reiser held positions as Financial Director and Controller with a major Fortune 500 company from 1980-2000, and subsequently was a senior consultant to a financial consulting firm that provides strategic and financial management to community-based nonprofit agencies in New York City.  He has served on the boards of several chapters throughout the U.S. of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) since 1989.

Oliver Rosengart, JD, PhD :

Oliver Rosengart, JD, PhD

Ollie is a retired assistant attorney general, having been in the New York State Attorney General’s Office for 25 years, part of it in the Charities Bureau where he oversaw the operation of not-for-profit corporations. He has also been a psychotherapist, a college professor and professor of law at NYU, and an engineer.
